Abstract Background and Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the shear bond strength (SBS) of composite/amalgam restorations when adhesive resin cement was used. Materials and Methods: 60 Acrylic cylinders were prepared using special Teflon molds. A square-shaped cavity was made at the center of each cylinder. The samples were divided into four groups (n=15). After amalgam condensation and burnishing in the first group, a two parts Teflon die with a cylindrical hole at the center was placed on the amalgam surface. These holes were filled with composite-resin. Single bond and Rely X-ARC were applied on amalgam surfaces respectively, prior to curing the composite-resins in the second group. In groups 3 and 4, the prepared amalgam samples were kept in 37◦C for 24 hours. Then they were identically roughened using burs. In group 3, composite was bonded immediately and in group 4, first single bond, and then Rely-X ARC were applied before curing the composite. The SBS was determined by DARTEC testing machine. Results: The mean SBS for the study groups were 9±2.77, 8.74±6.42, 6.13±2.35 and 8.25±1.43 respectively. The maximum value was related to group 1 and the minimum value belonged to group 3. However, there were no significant differences between the study groups. Conclusion: Application of Rely X-ARC in amalgam/composite interface did not cause any significant difference. Effect of Curing Mode on Shear Bond Strength of Self-Adhesive Cement to Composite Blocks
To overcome the disadvantages of computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) processed indirect restorations using glass-ceramics and other ceramics, resin nano ceramic, which has high strength and wear resistance with improved polish retention and optical properties, was introduced. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the shear bond strength and fracture pattern of indir...
full textEvaluation of Shear Bond Strength between Amalgam and Composite: An in vitro Study
Background & Aims: Repair of defective restoration is more conservative than replacing it. Veneering the amalgam restorations with opaque resin materials can satisfy the esthetic demands. Evaluation of interfacial bond quality between amalgam and composite surface is one of the important factors in assessing the quality of repaired amalgam which can be achieved...
full textInfluence of 10-MDP Adhesive System on Shear Bond Strength of Zirconia-Composite Interfaces
Introduction: This in-vitro study investigated the initial 24h bond strength between different composites and zirconia after application of four different adhesive systems. Methods: A total of 120 specimens of zirconia (InCoris, Sirona, Germany, Bernsheim) were ground with a 165 µm grit rotating diamond disc. Thirty specimens were each additionally treated with Cimara Zircon “CZ” (VOCO GmbH, ...
full textComparison of Shear Bond Strength of Composite Restorations to Intact Enamel of Primary Incisors When Using Different Conditioners and Adhesive Systems
Introdouction: Esthetic demands of patients have led to the introduction of tooth-colored restorations wherecomposite resins are bonded to the enamel using acid etch techniques. Total etch adhesion systems are still considered as the gold standard among bonding systems. However, clinicians have a tendency to use adhesive systems with simpler application procedures. The aim of the present stu...
full textEffect of hydrofluoric acid etching on shear bond strength of an indirect resin composite to an adhesive cement.
This study evaluated the effect of 1% hydrofluoric acid (HF) treatment on the bonding of an adhesive cement (Panavia F 2.0) to an indirect resin composite (Estenia C&B). Pairs of composite disks (10 and 8 mm in diameter by 3 mm thickness) were prepared. Adhesive surfaces were pretreated with either airborne particle abrasion or HF etching before being soaked for 30 seconds, five minutes or 10 m...
full textEffect of Laser Irradiation on Bond Strength of Zirconia Ceramic to Self-Adhesive Resin Cement
Background and Aim: Bonding of zirconia to resin cement is challenging, and the zirconia surface requires surface treatment to yield an acceptable bond strength. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of different surface treatments on the bond strength of zirconia to a resin cement. Materials and Methods: In this in-vitro experimental study, 60 zirconia discs measuring 12 mm in diameter an...
